Mercedes-Benz battery replacement in Al Taawun
A modern Mercedes-Benz takes an AGM battery, usually 70 to 95Ah in a DIN case, and many models carry a small auxiliary battery as well. Depending on the model the main battery is under the bonnet, under a seat or in the boot. A technician can replace it where the car is parked in Al Taawun and reset the battery management with a scan tool.

Where the battery sits in a Mercedes-Benz
Where the battery sits depends on the model more than on any rule. C-Class, GLC and A-Class have it in the engine bay, on the first two tucked near the bulkhead under a cover. The ML and earlier GLE hide it under the front passenger seat. S-Class cars usually carry it in the boot. With a flat battery and a seat that will not move, power goes in through the under-bonnet jump points first. Seat and boot jobs need the door or boot lid fully open, so a car in a tight bay may have to roll forward.
What we watch for when fitting a Mercedes-Benz battery
- The main battery is AGM and goes back as AGM, same case and amp-hours. The battery sensor on the negative clamp is unbolted with the cable, never prised off.
- Batteries mounted under a seat or in the boot have a vent tube to carry gas out of the cabin. It is transferred to the new battery and the unused vent hole is plugged.
- An 'Auxiliary battery malfunction' message refers to a separate small battery, not the main one. It is tested on its own and replaced only if it has failed.
- Power is kept on with a memory saver. Afterwards the technician clears stored low-voltage faults, runs the battery reset with a scan tool on models that call for it, and resynchronises the windows and sunroof.
Mercedes-Benz battery sizes and types
Mercedes sizes are DIN, counted in amp-hours. The A-Class and four-cylinder C-Class and GLC usually take a 70 or 80Ah AGM, the H6 and H7 cases. E-Class and six-cylinder cars move to 80 or 95Ah, H7 or H8. S-Class, GLE and G-Class commonly carry 95Ah, and some go to 105Ah in the H9 case. Older cars without start-stop were built with flooded batteries in the same cases. Auxiliary batteries are small, from about 1.2Ah on some models to 12Ah or more on others, and are matched to the part fitted.

Mercedes-Benz models we replace batteries for
Tap a model for its battery type, where it sits and what the swap involves.
Mercedes-Benz C-ClassThe C-Class usually takes a 70 or 80Ah AGM at the back of the engine bay under a cover. Start-stop models also have a small auxiliary battery or converter, which triggers its own dash warning when it fails.
Mercedes-Benz E-ClassRecent E-Class cars carry an 80 or 95Ah AGM in the engine bay, with an auxiliary battery elsewhere in the car. Older generations had the main battery in the boot, so the technician asks for the model year first.
Mercedes-Benz S-ClassThe S-Class normally uses a 95Ah or larger AGM, usually mounted in the boot with a vent tube. It has a heavy standby drain, and a car left for a fortnight often needs charging, not replacing.
Mercedes-Benz GLE-ClassOn the ML and earlier GLE the 95Ah class AGM is under the front passenger seat, and later GLE models moved it. A battery inside the cabin must be a sealed AGM with its vent connected.
Mercedes-Benz GLC-ClassThe GLC shares its layout with the C-Class: a 70 or 80Ah AGM at the rear of the engine bay. Access is reasonable in a basement, and the sensor plug on the negative lead is the part to handle carefully.
Mercedes-Benz G-ClassThe G-Class usually keeps its battery inside the body under the floor, not under the bonnet, and takes a 95Ah class AGM. The position changed between the old and new shape, so it is confirmed before the job.
Mercedes-Benz A-ClassThe A-Class takes a 70Ah class AGM under the bonnet in a compact engine bay with little room around the battery. Start-stop does not return until the new battery is fully charged and the system has been reset.

How the battery and charging system work on a Mercedes-Benz
Almost every Mercedes built in the last decade has ECO start-stop, and that means AGM from the factory. A sensor on the negative terminal reports voltage, current and temperature to the car, which decides how hard to charge and when it is safe to shut the engine off at lights. Many models add a second, much smaller auxiliary battery or a voltage converter to keep the gearbox and electronics alive during a restart. Recent models with the 48-volt mild hybrid system still have a 12V battery for the ordinary circuits.
Signs a Mercedes-Benz battery is on its way out
- The ECO start-stop symbol stays yellow and the engine no longer cuts out at traffic lights.
- A red battery symbol or a message to stop and leave the engine running appears. That points to charging as much as to the battery, so the alternator is tested too.
- Comfort features drop out one at a time, seat ventilation, rear screen heating, keyless entry, while the car still starts.
Mercedes-Benz battery help around Al Taawun
Mercedes owners in Al Taawun mostly park below ground, in the basements of towers such as Manazil, Al Saad or the Tiger Towers, and drive to offices in Dubai or along Corniche Road. Underground parking keeps the cabin cooler but it also hides a weak battery: the car starts easily in the morning shade, then fails after sitting in an open car park all afternoon. A basement job needs nothing special from the building. Tell security a technician is coming, and he walks down with a jump pack, tools, scan tool and the new battery.
Mercedes-Benz battery replacement: FAQs
What does 'Auxiliary battery malfunction' mean on my Mercedes?
It means the small second battery, or on some models the voltage converter that does its job, has failed. The car still starts from the main battery, but start-stop is disabled and some backup functions are lost. The technician tests both batteries and replaces only the one that has failed.
Where is the battery on a Mercedes ML or GLE?
On the ML and the first GLE it is under the front passenger seat, beneath a carpet flap and a cover. Later GLE models place it elsewhere, which the technician confirms from the model year. Either way there are jump terminals under the bonnet, so the car can be powered up before the battery itself is reached.
Can I fit a standard battery in my C-Class instead of AGM?
No. A C-Class with start-stop was built around an AGM battery, and a standard one will fail early, switch start-stop off and can trigger charging faults. The replacement has to be AGM in the same case size and amp-hours.
Why does the battery in my Mercedes have a small plastic tube attached?
That is the vent tube. When a battery sits inside the cabin or boot, any gas released during charging has to be piped outside the car. It is refitted to the new battery every time, and a missing tube is one of the most common mistakes in a rushed battery change.
