Who makes Tudor batteries

The Tudor name goes back to Henri Tudor, the Luxembourg engineer who built one of the first practical lead-acid batteries in the nineteenth century. The brand took root in Spain, where it became one of the best-known car battery names, and today it belongs to Exide Technologies, the European battery group. Tudor batteries are made in the group's European plants, and the ranges mirror those sold under the Exide name elsewhere in Europe.

What the group is known for is start-stop. It was among the early suppliers of AGM and EFB batteries to European car makers when fuel-saving systems arrived, and that factory work feeds the Tudor Start-Stop lines. For a Sharjah driver the heritage matters less than the result: a Volkswagen, Renault or Peugeot that shuts its engine off at every red light on King Faisal Street needs a battery built for thousands of extra starts.

How Tudor batteries cope with UAE heat

Start-stop is harder on a battery in Sharjah than in Madrid, because the cabin fan, lights and screens run off the battery at every stop and the engine restarts more often to keep the cabin cool. Tudor's Start-Stop EFB has roughly twice the cycle life of a conventional battery, and the AGM version goes further and copes better with the deep discharge that a long stint of airport parking causes. The flooded High-Tech and Technica lines age in engine-bay heat like any standard battery.

Which cars suit a Tudor battery

Tudor is aimed at European cars: Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot and Fiat models in the EFB and standard lines, and BMW in the AGM line. It suits owners who want European group engineering and are relaxed about an unfamiliar name on the case. Dubai commuters in start-stop cars get the most from it, since crawling traffic on Al Ittihad Road is exactly the duty the Start-Stop range was designed for.

Tudor is a common fit for

Tudor: strengths and trade-offs

Where it does well

  • Start-stop EFB and AGM lines backed by the Exide group's factory supply to European car makers.
  • A full run of European case sizes for French, Italian and German cars.
  • The High-Tech line accepts charge quickly, which helps when most trips are short.
  • Group engineering under a name with more than a century of battery history behind it.

Where to think twice

  • Little known in the Gulf, so you may not recognise the name even though the group behind it is a major one.
  • Built around European sizes; not our pick for most Japanese or Korean cars.
  • The Technica and High-Tech lines are conventional batteries and must not go into a start-stop car.

Tudor compared with other brands

  • Tudor vs Exide

Tudor is part of the Exide Technologies group in Europe, so a European-built Exide and a Tudor of the same line are close relatives. Pick on practical details: which is in stock in your size and technology, and which carries the more recent production date.

  • Tudor vs Bosch

Bosch is a name most European-car owners in the Gulf already trust, and its AGM is a safe choice for Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Tudor offers equivalent technology with less recognition. Choose Bosch if the name matters to you, Tudor if specification and freshness matter more.

Tudor car battery: FAQs

Is Tudor the same as Exide?

Tudor is a brand of Exide Technologies, the European battery group, and its ranges follow the group's designs. In Spain and Portugal the group sells mainly under the Tudor name. The battery is judged like any other: size, technology, capacity and production date.

My Volkswagen has start-stop. Which Tudor battery does it take?

Check the label on the battery in the car: if it says AGM it gets Tudor Start-Stop AGM, and if it says EFB it gets Start-Stop EFB or an upgrade to AGM. Newer Volkswagen models also need the battery details coded in with a scan tool, which we do on site.

Can a Tudor High-Tech replace the EFB battery in my Renault or Peugeot?

No. A conventional battery in a start-stop car wears out early and the start-stop function stops working. The car should get EFB or AGM back, and we will not fit a lower technology than the factory used.

What warranty do you give on Tudor batteries?

Up to 24 months. The fitting date and term go on the invoice, and the old battery is taken away for recycling. Before fitting we test the alternator output, because a charging fault shortens the life of any new battery.
