Honda battery replacement in Al Taawun

Most Hondas take a Japanese JIS battery: the small NS40 type on the City and many Civic and HR-V cars, the NS60 or B24 size on four-cylinder Accord and CR-V models, and a D23 or D26 on the V6 Accord and Pilot. All are under the bonnet, so a Honda battery replacement in Al Taawun is a short job at the car, any time of day.

How the battery and charging system work on a Honda

Honda's charging system is frugal by design. An electrical load detector lets the alternator ease off when little power is being used, so a healthy Honda can show barely more than battery voltage at idle with everything switched off, then jump to around 14 volts when the lights and AC come on. Newer models add a battery sensor on the negative cable, and some recent turbo cars have idle stop, which needs an EFB or AGM battery. Most Hondas in Sharjah, though, run a plain maintenance-free flooded battery and need no coding.

Signs a Honda battery is on its way out

  • The starter turns for a moment, then every dash light flickers and the clock or trip meter resets to zero.
  • Headlights dim noticeably at idle with the AC on and brighten when the revs rise.
  • White or green crust building up on the positive terminal, common on Hondas whose battery has been venting in the heat.

Honda battery help around Al Taawun

Expo Centre Sharjah sits on Al Taawun Street, and during big events such as the book fair each November the car parks and roads around it fill up. A Honda that has queued for a space with the AC running, then sat for hours, then queued again to get out has had a hard day for a small battery. Should it refuse to start in an Expo car park, or outside Al Arab Mall across the roundabout, the technician comes to that bay. Share a location pin on WhatsApp along with the level or zone number.

What we watch for when fitting a Honda battery

  • Small Honda batteries use thin JIS posts. A battery with standard thick posts will not take the clamps, and a clamp shimmed onto the wrong post always works loose.
  • Older Accords, Civics and CR-Vs ask for a radio code after the battery has been disconnected. We keep the car powered during the swap so the question never comes up; have the code card handy anyway.
  • The idle can hunt for a few minutes after a disconnect while the engine computer relearns. Letting it idle with all loads off until the radiator fan cycles settles it.
  • The J-hook rods corrode at the bottom where they catch the tray. One that has rusted thin is replaced, not reused, because a loose battery fails early from vibration.

Honda battery sizes and types

Honda sizes are small for the engines they start. The City and many 1.8 Civic and HR-V cars use the NS40 family, such as 38B19L, with thin terminal posts. Four-cylinder Accord and CR-V models usually take the NS60 class, 46B24L or 55B24L, again on thin posts in many years. The V6 Accord moves to 65D23L or 80D26L, and the Pilot normally takes a D26-size battery or its American group equivalent. Post thickness matters as much as case size on a Honda, so the technician checks both before the old battery comes out.

Where the battery sits in a Honda

On every Honda in this list the battery is under the bonnet, near the front, held by a metal strap across the top and two long J-hook rods. Space around it is generous on the Accord and Pilot and tighter on the City, where the air intake can sit close by. There is no trim to strip and nothing in the boot. That makes a Honda one of the easier cars to deal with in a cramped street bay or a basement with cars either side: the technician only needs the bonnet up and room to stand at the front.

Honda battery replacement: FAQs

My Honda is asking for a radio code after the battery went flat. What do I do?

Enter the anti-theft code from the card that came with the car, often kept with the owner's manual or on a sticker in the glovebox. On newer models, holding the audio power button for a couple of seconds restores it without a code. If the code is lost, a Honda dealer can retrieve it from the radio's serial number.

Can I fit a bigger battery than NS40 in my Honda City or Civic?

Sometimes. If the tray and hold-down allow it, a step up in capacity gives more reserve for AC-heavy driving. The posts must still be the thin type and the bonnet must clear the top of the battery, so the technician checks the fit before recommending it.

Why does my Honda idle roughly after a new battery?

The engine computer lost its learned idle settings when power was cut. Let the engine warm up fully and idle for about ten minutes with the AC, lights and fan off, and it settles. We keep power on the car during a swap to avoid this in the first place.

How long should the small battery in a Honda Civic last in Sharjah?

Two to three years is typical in UAE private use, and less if the car does mostly short trips or stands for long periods. The same battery might give four or five years in a mild climate. Heat is the difference, which is why a free test before summer is worth having.
